How to Operate And Care A Centrifuge Smartly?

Mar. 16, 2022

Industrial centrifuges were born in Europe. In the mid-19th century, three-foot centrifuges for textile dewatering and top-suspended centrifuges for separating crystallized sugar in sugar mills appeared. These machines were operated intermittently and discharged manually. Improvements in the slag discharge mechanism led to the emergence of continuously operating centrifuges in the 1930s, and intermittently operating centrifuges were automated and developed.

How to operate a centrifuge

1. When using any type of centrifuge, the tubes and their contents must be accurately balanced on a balance beforehand. The difference in weight during balancing must not exceed the range specified in each centrifuge's manual.

2. Each centrifuge has a different rotor in which no odd number of tubes can be loaded. When the rotor is only partially loaded, the tubes must be placed symmetrically in the rotor so that the load is evenly distributed around the rotor.

3. Centrifuge at a temperature lower than room temperature. Rotors should be placed in a refrigerator or centrifuge rotor chamber to pre-cool before use.

4. Do not leave at will during centrifugation and keep observing the instruments on the centrifuge to see if they are working properly. If there is a strange noise, should immediately stop to check and troubleshoot in a timely manner.

5. Each rotor has its own higher allowable speed and cumulative use limit. When using the rotor, please refer to the manual and do not over speed. Each rotor must have a usage file to record the cumulative usage time. If the upper limit of rotor use is exceeded, the rotor must be used at a reduced speed.

6. When loading solutions, follow the specific operating instructions for each type of centrifuge and select the appropriate centrifuge tube according to the nature and volume of the liquid to be centrifuged. Some centrifuge tubes do not have a cap, the liquid should not be filled too much to prevent centrifugation. Throwing it away can lead to unbalanced, rusty or corroded rotors.

7. After each use, the rotor must be carefully checked, promptly cleaned and dried. The rotor is a critical part of the centrifuge that needs to be protected. Be careful when moving and avoid collisions to avoid scarring. When the rotor is not used for a long time, you must apply a layer of polishing wax for protection.

Use rules and notes

1. When the centrifuge is in pre-cooling state, the centrifuge cover must be closed. After centrifugation is completed, the rotor should be inverted on the test bench and the remaining water in the cavity should be wiped away. Open the centrifuge cover.

2. After the rotor pre-cooling, the rotor cover can be placed on the centrifuge platform or on the test bench. Be sure to tighten the floating on the rotor, because once the wrong start, the rotor cover will fly out and cause accidents!

3. After tightening the rotor cover, there must be no gap between the rotor and rotor cover with your finger. If there is a gap, unscrew the centrifuge and retighten it until it is confirmed that there is no gap.

4. During the centrifugation process, the operator must not leave the centrifugal chamber. Once an abnormal situation occurs, the operator must not turn off the power and press STOP. before pre-cooling, fill in the centrifuge use record.

5. Do not use counterfeit centrifuge tubes, nor use aging, deformed or broken centrifuge tubes.

6. If the instrument breaks down during use and the parts are damaged, please contact us in time.

Centrifuges are widely used in chemical, petroleum, food, pharmaceutical, mineral processing, coal, water treatment, shipbuilding and other sectors. The most important thing to use the centrifuge is safety. If the centrifuge is out of control, it can cause a lot of damage! So pay attention to whether the centrifuge tube is balanced, whether the speed exceeds the setting, whether the rotor is corroded, etc.
